A 15-Minute Surgery, 5,000 Lives Transformed through the Gift of Sight
Thirty-five million people living in developing countries are blind. This disability can strip them of their livelihood and condemn their families to extreme poverty. The good news is that 80 percent of these cases are treatable or preventable. Half of the blindness is caused by cataracts, and an individual’s vision can be restored through a quick 15-minute surgery.
At MediaMath, our job is to drive measurable results for our clients, which include some of the biggest brands in the world looking to deepen their direct customer relationships. We also hold ourselves accountable to something larger than ourselves, something beyond just profit. One of our core values is Do, Good Better. This means seeking out high-priority problems and effective charities with proven solutions and helping them reach more donors with our resources.
In 2017, we launched our Campaigns Count program. For every 20 campaigns in our platform, we fund an eyesight-saving surgery for individuals who suffer from low vision or whose blindness is treatable. This week we have reached a milestone: funding surgeries for 5,000 people in some of the poorest regions of the world. Seva stands out as an amazing charity partner that aligns with our Do Good, Better value, seeking out high ROI – restoring sight is one of the most cost-effective health interventions to reduce poverty.
In the month when CEOs released a new statement of purpose, realizing Companies Need a Purpose Beyond Profit, we hope more companies adopt a philosophy of high–impact philanthropy, seeking measurable results in the same way they do across the rest of their business.
Seva is an international non-profit that partners worldwide to prevent blindness and restore sight. Seva works in over 20 resource-poor countries, focusing on communities where a small contribution goes a long way. Learn more about Seva and other high-impact nonprofits at The Life You Can Save.
